What can I do? Please help(: Report lapstopped- Dec 7, 2009 03:13PM Hi Pete, I'm dying for some help, and to be honest, I'm pretty novice when it comes to laptops
If the computer encounters errors while attempting to perform startup repair or reinstall Windows, or the reinstall process works properly and you encounter the same errors afterwards, you likely have a hardware problem. I told him what was going on and - after checking to ensure the hard drive and motherboard were sound, he booted up and shut down the system a few times -- but this time everything worked perfectly and he could not replicate the problem as I had described it
i usually just hold the power button down until it shuts down, then i press the power button again, and then it makes it past the black screen to windows start up screen. I have a Dell Dimension E520 with Vista (this is all I know sorry, not great with computers!) I had previous problems due to my ITunes not responding and my Internet Explorer and I have fixed the ITunes problem
Computer Has a Black Screen in Windows and Will Not Boot or Start Up - Tips4pc
Do you have any suggestions as to what has happened or how to fix this problem please? Mitz says November 3, 2010 at 9:37 am Hi Claire Have you restarted your computer? Is that when it is a black screen with a cursor? I would put your operating system cd in and do a repair. No beeps, no cursor, no logo screen, and no choice to boot to safe mode or access the bios.If your computer will not boot up and you get a beep sequence, I am not saying it is good news, however it is a step in the right direction towards solving this problem
Computer Boots to Black Screen with Blinking Cursor
I found something about that on the Dell website yesterday, but I have no clue about the disk burner and apparently it only works if you are already in the Windows.)My keyboard is working, I think. Amber says November 10, 2012 at 7:30 pm Hello, What can I do to repair the black screen with blinking curser if I cannot locate The operating disc (Win XP) that came with my computer? LettuceCheese BSOD, App Crashes And Hangs 6 08-25-2012 05:20 PM Random BSOD I recently replaced certain parts of my computer after frying the motherboard. I will manually edit the MBR, removing the invalid first partition and then attach the amended MBR to a post along with instructions for you to write it to the hard drive
Toshiba Satellite laptop won't boot into Windows - black screen - Tech Support Forum
I returned the Toshiba back to it's owner and told him I believed the hard drive is bad and he should really try to speak to the distributor and get a new one; the laptop is apparently less than a year old - he then said they would actually replace it with a new one as they have been having issues with the hard drives of this model. I then attempted to reformat the hard drive by pressing the key zero while booting up and after going through the steps to set the laptop back to it's factory settings, it continued to delete the partition but stopped with an error code that there were some corrupted files
Toshiba Laptop won't start up- blinking cursor on black screen - Windows 7 Help Forums
From it you can test the HD surface, File System on each partition, confirm the Active flag is intact on the Win7 or its boot partition, then maybe even jump-start it using Partition Wizard Rebuild MBR - Video Help. BSOD Help and Support Black screen, blinking cursorI have already posted at the Expert Exchange, but I am getting no traction there so I am thinking of reposting here
The last hard drive failure I had was a seagate HD that failed after 49500 hours ( is that a normal lifespan for a hard drive ) Based upon your comment I also tried to run spin rite, but I can get the computer to boot to the windows xp disc, but not to the spin rite disc, ( it keeps saying try f1 to reboot or f2 for set up utility.) I have changed the boot order in the BIOS to boot to the cd rom drive first so I dont understand why it will boot no problem to the xp disc but not to spin rite. You will probably have better luck using a linux live cd or removing the hard drive from your computer and placing it in a different working computer to retrieve the files
Vista Won't Boot (Black Screen) After Bad Windows Update - Forums - CNET
My laptop has that handy wi-fi disconnect switch that makes that easy to do...I simply turn it to OFF, close my desktop widgets, then reboot. As it turned out, one of my new clients is a software programmer. But the IE 7 freeze-up and the blackscreen issues still continue.Bob had insisted that I needed to remove my USB flash stick, as it was the cause of the problem
ORyou can also use it to backup your data to a internal drive or external usb hard drive..just have it hooked to the computer when you boot up with puppy... I shut it down and restarted and a dos style like program chkdsk program popped up before i got to xp startup screen one day asking me if i wanted to run it (I was kind of heistant to run it, fake chkdsk virus?) so i did it took about a half hour to complete and said something about changing orpaned files and a bunch of other files.Ever since I ran this i cant get into xp.f2 and f12 are the only options i can get into.I cannot get into safe mode or the screen that says reset to the best known config, which I would love to right about now.I have tried windows repair cd done everything on that and it just shows the blinking cursor again

The customer expressed that they needed the computer back quickly, so with the interest of getting her computer back as quickly as possible, I went ahead and backed up all of her data and am currently reinstalling Windows. My keyboard wouldn't function any longer and I have to manually turn the computer off and back on to boot to a CD whereas before, I could simply Ctrl + Alt + Del to restart
