What are the target applications or consumers of the CDC technology? ETL Solutions are the most common, however any data consuming application that requires syncronizing data could benefit from the technology. CDC is basically suppose to be a built-in solution to the old-age practice in ETL solutions of identifying and using change identifiers columns in source systems

Partitioning in SQL Server 2008 - SQLServerCentral

  http://www.sqlservercentral.com/articles/partition/64740/
The partition functions of the indexes of the indexed view and table must define the same number of partitions, their boundary values and the partition must be based on the same column. This would certainly help in satisfying the query requirements of users, but it adds additional time while updating or adding records to the table given the large amount of data in the table

Today, when I tried to RESTORE one of these FILEGROUP backups, I got the following error:- Processed 1895080 pages for database 'XWing', file 'XWing' on file 1. The state of the database is defined by the primary file, as follows: If the primary file is being restored, the recovery point determines the state of the whole database

Primary filegroup is full SQL Server 2008 - Database Administrators Stack Exchange

This database will only be used on a single machine, and it will be designed to mine data that already exists and it under no circumstances will ever grow beyond its current size. Create disk space by deleting unneeded files, dropping objects in the filegroup, adding additional files to the filegroup, or setting autogrowth on for existing files in the filegroup

Craig Freedman 5 Jan 2009 4:08 PM With regards to seek or scan performance, the question to ask is whether there is a predicate on the partition column that can be used to enable partition elimination. Craig Freedman's SQL Server Blog 22 Aug 2008 6:50 PM In this post on partitioned tables, I mentioned that SQL Server 2008 has a much more efficient implementation Craig Freedman 22 Aug 2008 6:52 PM I decided to measure the overhead of dynamic partition elimination with a large number of partitions

(In case you are thinking that XML or delimited strings could be an alternative here, permit me to point out that they, too, represent intermediate storage. One is the push model, where you create a rowset with the metadata, fill the rowset with your data, and in the regular parameter area, you pass the rowset pointer

Restarting SQL server didn't help, perhaps defragment would give the OS time to free up the pagefile, but we just rebooted the server and voila, the pagefile had shrunk and everything worked fine. Do you know what operation was run to cause this? The only thing I can think of would be if the database needed to reserve a very large amount of disk space for a transaction, beyond the 10GB you had available (off the top of my head I believe SQL will reserve space for the operation, freeing it up afterwards)

How do i move a table to a particular FileGroup in SQL Server 2008 - Stack Overflow

  http://stackoverflow.com/questions/712449/how-do-i-move-a-table-to-a-particular-filegroup-in-sql-server-2008
From SQL Server 2008 Books Online: To move an existing index to a different filegroup or partition scheme In Object Explorer, connect to an instance of the SQL Server Database Engine and then expand that instance. Credit: Brian Moran You can create (or recreate) the clustered index specifying the new filegroup for the ON clause and that will move the table (data)
