Casey worked in a retail record store in Hialeah, Florida, and hung out at a nearby recording studio, volunteering to do odd jobs for free just to be close to the action. They had no precedents, were completely original in their approach and virtually by themselves, pointed the direction that pop music would take in the 80's, with 9 Grammy nominations and the receipt of 3 Grammy awards
That decade saw the release of countless KC "hits" collections and even an episode of VH1's popular Behind the Music series that studied the group's ups and downs. Casey and Finch first met in 1972 while both were employed by TK Records in Miami, where among other chores, Casey served as a personal secretary and booking agent for artist Timmy Thomas
KC had such energy and pazzazz, and between songs was cracking jokes about his age to the crowd, a good mixture of young and old fans of the legendary soulsters
