RT at least is fairly good at showing when ITV is simulcasting something in HD, but as others have said it does rely on the broadcaster not chopping and changing things at the last minute. Sky seems to be the choice of the day and reluctantly I feel I am being pushed in to getting SKY HD and forget about Freesat altogether especially as the offers from SKY are becoming more and more attractive

The boxes are compliant in that they can receive all FTA channels (which is how I believe the EU directive is worded) - it is merely regional variations of channels that cannot be manually tuned. what are the numbers to manually tune it in then? So all receivers of any type will work on free channels like the BBC (providing the dish you have is the correct size) There are two reasons why a Sky receiver is not ideal for use on other satellites than Astra 2. To use Sky HD and use the record feature you DO need a Sky HD subscription but the phone line does not need to be connected (although it can be if you wish) unless it is part of a "Sky multiroom" contract
