Teknodogg (3:45 PM, December 13, 2011) if you do a lot of sports than go with a 7D Rizengrom (7:29 PM, December 12, 2011) It's weather Resistant, not weathersealed xeres (6:03 PM, December 07, 2011) Being an amateur photographer I've understood, through the years, that lenses are at least as much important than cameras. Wdeptuch (2:57 AM, March 07, 2012) You have no clue what you are talking about, the canon 5d mark ii and the 7d have been used on feature films and television shows over the past several years. You dont have to worry about the sound on these if you are shooting for a feature because you should be shooting that seperately (like with an h4n zoom) like they do with the reds and film cameras

And while it may seem unfair to compare a prime against a zoom, I should also note the Canon 24-105mm f4L IS USM and the Zeiss 24mm f1.8 carry roughly similar price tags. I also hope to retest the NEX-7 against the Mark III to compare noise levels at high sensitivities, an aspect where the larger, more expensive DSLR should enjoy a lead

I'll dial-in -0.7 if I'm shooting colorful things in interesting light with highlight optimization (Highlight Tone Priority) OFF, otherwise, 0.0 usually looks best. Poke in a card that's been shot on Nikon, and the 5D Mark II starts recording into the last Nikon folder, numbering its files just after the last Nikon shot! If the 5D Mark II were smarter, it would create a new folder for itself, and number from wherever it last left off

Royster You can zoom in when you are in live view mode.As well as insuring that focus is spot on you can select the exact focus point you want in the image Dime A simple test: Take your best photo, think about the camera used. In that HDMI out will absolutely be available on the MkIII, regardless of who provides it, I do not count as something offered by one and not the other

All in all I'm extremely impressed with the camera, great performance, good build quality, and relative to a full pro body which would cost double, it represents good value. The AF takes a bit of getting use to but once you get the hang of it there is no looking back, another big plus point is the ISO noise which can mean you can get the shot ( just need to reduce the noise in post )

The 22-megapixel Canon EOS 5D Mark III offers new autofocusing, metering and sensor technology and incorporates feedback from professional users to take this legacy to an entirely new level. iFCL metering works in conjunction with the AF system and uses color information from scenes to produce accurate exposure readings using a 63 zone dual-layer metering sensor

Report As Inappropriate Must have for pros October 18, 2013 By: Joe Mayer Until the 5D MKIII came along, those of us like myself shooting weddings have had to make compromises in our cameras. The metering sensor enables evaluative, center weighted, partial and spot metering, plus offers 5-step exposure compensation for perfectly exposed images, every time.High-Speed Continuous ShootingThe EOS 5D Mark III combines fast 8-channel data readout from its 22.3 Megapixel CMOS sensor and the supercharged processing capabilities of its DIGIC 5+ Image Processor with a speedier shutter and mirror system to raise the performance bar for all digital cameras, capturing full-frame images and recording them fast to UDMA or SD cards stored in the camera's dual card slots

For example, the Canon S100 sensor is better than the Lumix LX5 and Olympus XZ-1, but the Canon S100 lens is so bad that the other 2 cameras are much better options. In some recent reviews DPR has tried to clarify the difference, but unfortunately they continue to use the term Dynamic Range on their tone curve test. The Shadow Noise test on page 26 of that same review tells us more about the Dynamic Range of the sensor

This guide and the Mark III manual also explain which lenses can exploit which AF points in the system, as the most sensitive dual-cross type sensors in the middle only work with lenses at f2.8 or faster, while others are limited to f4 or faster. Like the Mark III, the D800 claims to exploit the speed of UDMA-7 1000x Compact Flash cards, but unlike the Mark III, it should also exploit the speed of UHS-1 SD cards

I use my 5D, purchased in 2013, for all of my photography with exception of when shooting at air shows or birding, in which case I fall back on my 7D and attach a 400mm f5.6 lens. Additional technological advancements include an Intelligent Viewfinder, Canon's advanced iFCL metering system, High Dynamic Range (HDR), and Multiple Exposure mode-all of which help make the EOS 5D Mark III the perfect multimedia tool

The 22-megapixel Canon EOS 5D Mark III offers new autofocusing, metering and sensor technology and incorporates feedback from professional users to take this legacy to an entirely new level. I shot my first wedding without that ability last week and wanted to call Canon to complain so badly! I wish I could talk to the developers and tell them to LOOK AT THE NIKON D7000'S FUNCTIONS! That said, my only regret is that I waited so long to upgrade, or that I didn't start with the Mark 5D line from the beginning

I suspect that a D800 must be much better than a 7D, but it is a long way to match the other cameras...1 upvoteBy Ronald1959 (May 29, 2012)I agree.0 upvotesBy draculavn (May 30, 2012)d800 has no door to compete with 5D mark 3. If you have to argue their verdict, you should first post your credentials and then solid evidence.Nikon made an innovative camera and underpriced if, Nikon had to at the cost of cannibalizing their D3x marketWhy?here is a simple example: I just spent 4 days in the historical center of Rome

Benefitting the imaging performance is a 61-point High Density Reticular AF system, which includes 5 central dual cross-type points and 41 other cross-type points for refined precision and speed when working in difficult lighting conditions and with moving subjects. The 5D Mark III features a 22.3MP full-frame CMOS sensor and DIGIC 5+ image processor to enable up to 6 fps continuous shooting and full HD 1080p video recording with an expandable sensitivity range to ISO 102,400

The original EOS 5D of 2005 was the first 'affordable' full frame SLR, and the camera that cemented the 24x36mm sensor as the format of choice for many professional applications at a time when many were questioning its continued relevance. And let's not forget that 61-point focus system from the 1DX - the first time Canon has put its top-spec AF sensor into a non-1-series camera since the film-era EOS 3

Depending on the scene, what you need the footage for, and the available lighting, you can easily push the Mark III's ISO as high as 8000 and still come away with footage that's very usable. But there's a new codec option with a compression algorithm that processes and compresses each frame individually, instead of comparing it to neighboring frames, which makes post-processing and editing easier

A High Dynamic Range (HDR) mode is also incorporated and allows for the creation of HDR images in-camera, reducing the time needed to manually overlay images in post-production. The redesigned grip offers easy holding when shooting or carrying the camera, while the rubber skin coating has been engineered for all day comfort in your hand and also coats the camera's card slot cover

I would have no issues working with this for advertising, for studio work, for portraiture, and taking it into the Sahara or way up the Amazon for photojournalism work.
