NBA Finals - What LeBron James accomplished despite losing Finals
In a sense, his career has been nothing but iconic.Yet what would you consider the signature James moment, the kind we described above, the transcendent instant that will be replayed during future montages that open future Finals broadcasts? You can argue that it is this series, perhaps even the image of him hugging Golden State's Steve Kerr and Stephen Curry as he exited the game on Tuesday. That's because James nearly pulled off something that just doesn't happen in the NBA: He almost carried his team to a title all on his own, and he did it playing a style of basketball that is completely contrary to the on-court instincts he's built up over a lifetime of superlative success
After averaging 25.3 points, 6.0 rebounds, 7.4 assists, 1.6 steals, 0.6 blocks, and 1.7 three-pointers with Cleveland during the 2014-15 season, James will be an easy selection as a top-5 fantasy pick for 2015-16. Varejao is a tenacious rebounder and his energy level will never be a question mark, but his injury history is too extensive for owners in standard leagues to take a chance on him
James has been in the national spotlight since he was a teenager, but arguably his greatest accomplishment has been not only living up to the hype, but exceeding it. We have three on offer: a curated digest of the best of FiveThirtyEight from the past week; The Week In Data, our weekly look at the best data journalism from around the web; and Significant Digits, our roundup of numbers in the news. Upon joining the Miami Heat in 2010, James of course enjoyed a far better set of teammates, including future Hall of Famers Dwyane Wade and Ray Allen (and borderline candidate Chris Bosh)
The first we called on Friday was the Cleveland Cavaliers against the Minnesota Timberwolves, and who should show up to watch the game but the King himself, LeBron James. The Heat reached four straight NBA Finals during their four seasons together in Miami, winning two NBA championships over the span, and established the legacies for all three players

James was 23, already supremely famous, had by that time taken the Cavaliers to one NBA final, but he was a few months away from winning his first MVP (of four, currently) and of course this was before LeBron bolted to Miami, won two titles there, then bolted back to Cleveland this season
