Also make sure that the Reporting Service service is running on the server, otherwise the WMI provider will not be available for the upgrade script to function.. Success! If you receive error messages about failure and rolling back the installation make sure you tried the Reporting Services website before you started the MDM Reporting installation and have a working SQL Reporting Services configuration beforehand.

SQL Agent not able to start on SQL Server 2008 Developer Edition

Fails with the same error message. What I want to achieve is to be able to start the SQL Agent, however I need to be able to set it's Start Mode from 'Disabled' to either 'Manual' or 'Automatic' first. When I go into the SQL Server Configuration Manager and select the properties of the Agent service and try to change the start mode from 'Disabled' to 'Manual', it comes back with the following error message after a few seconds:"WMI Provider ErrorThe remote procedure call failed

It will provide information on the time for collection evaluations to complete, which collections are currently being evaluated, and the estimated time that a collection evaluation will start and complete. The tool displays the list of jobs that the package transfer manager component has in its queue as well as the status of the jobs (ready to be executed, running or retrying)

Reply Eugene said January 23, 2013 at 8:14 AM Great post! Is it possible after importing the SSL certificate to the personal store to remove the user from being Administrator on the machine? I use a domain account for the services (yep, just one) and gave it as little rights as needed. Here are some common reasons :- If yours is a clustered instance of SQL Server, then the CN in your certificate will contain the FQDN of your virtual server name of the instance and not the node names

I've been working full time with SQL Server since year 2005 and blogs to post the content aquired during my research on new topics or fixing issues faced by me as a DBA while working in different kind of projects, hope some of my posts may helps others in SQLDBA community. What could be the problem now? Can I rename it to what it was earlier? (I tried leaving the name blank since it was the default name before too but it says that a server with the name MSSQLSERVER already exists)

Note that while you may be able to get around the error with the command below (for example, as referenced here), it is recommended that you instead run the PowerShell script referenced above to properly configure SQL Server on VMs created from the Visual Studio gallery images. Only the minimal LocalDB version is installed in the image by default since that satisfies most local development requirements and most Visual Studio templates choose LocalDB as the default database backend

Based on what documentation I could find, by design, System Center requires you use the default SSL certificate that gets autogenerated during the installation process. In this case, you need to ensure you have a seperate SQL Server instance dedicated solely to the System Center installation and can use the dedicated system center SSL certificate
