Typical Turbo failures can be identified by noting puffs of smoke comeing from the exhaust when coming to a stop.NOTE: If the engine is only smoking during cold start and you have a sweet smell coming from the tailpipe check the headgasket to see if it is leaking down overnight. The level of pressure is determined by the fuel pressure regulator, which maintains a constant fuel pressure in relation to the pressure in the engine intake manifold

Valve cover breather VS. PCV valve? Why is there a difference? - Ford Truck Enthusiasts Forums

The PCV valve is a check valve (take it out should rattle when it is shaken) that allows crankcase gases to be vacuumed out and mixed with the air-fuel mixture and burned during combustion. I'm wondering what happens when you replace the original valve covers with ones like I've got, and what you need to do with the holes in the air cleaner and carb

OP: you did alot of stuff but some was not necessary for just PCV replacement, i also would advise against cleaning the alternator out like that, might just really screw the alternator up. One person said they were able to remove the bolt without removing the accessories bracket, but they said that after I had asked for weeks, and after I had completed my job

How to Replace the PCV Valve in a Toyota Camry To control the amount of pressure and vapors released, your car utilizes a part named the positive crankcase ventilation (PCV) valve. A rich mixture can lead to a build up of back pressure in the exhaust system, which can cause engine stalling and a decrease in overall engine performance

  http://www.aa1car.com/library/how_often_change_oil.htm
Such frequent oil changes might not be necessary in late model low mileage engines, but it is important for older, high mileage engines (those with over 75,000 to 100,000 miles). The oil filter will trap most of the solid contaminants, and the Positive Crankcase Ventilation (PCV) system will siphon off most of the moisture and blowby vapors, if the engine gets hot enough and runs long enough to boil the contaminants out of the oil

Replacing the PCV valve

The clicking noise you hear when you shake a good PCV valve is due to the fact that the spring that is supposed to push the plunger head against the seat is actually slightly short. What happens when you remove the PCV valve entirely in a modern car? back to top There are many, many Web sites that report that a stuck-open PCV valve "can" result in rough idling and stalling

What does the PCV valve do?

  http://www.autorized.com/auto-maintenance/what-does-the-pcv-valve-do.shtml
Crankcase emissions can be a great source of air pollution, and therefore the PCV valve is very useful and important not only for the car functioning but also for the environment and health as well. This way, the PCV valve is an easy to maintain piece which implies an important amount of benefits that affect not only the car and its owner but also those who surround him and the environment in general due to the way in which it prevents gases from becoming air pollution factors

PCV valve. Do you have to run one? - Chevelle Tech

They are merely bleeding off crankcase pressure like ordinary breathers until you get up enough road speed to produce any delta P at all, and even then it can't be called much suction, more like fresh air being gently drawn in, at best. And for those who don't want to run a PCV system, in order to gain a little extra performance and to simplify things under the hood, there is absolutely nothing wrong with doing that either, other than causing a bit more pollution

How does a positive crankcase ventilation (PCV) system work? - HowStuffWorks

  http://auto.howstuffworks.com/positive-crankcase-ventilation-system.htm
Since the whole point of positive crankcase ventilation is to keep these gases out of the crankcase, the PCV valve is designed to close off when this happens and block the backflow of gases. When the engine speeds up, the air pressure in the intake manifold increases and the suction slows down, reducing the amount of blow-by gas recycled to the cylinders

  http://www.ehow.com/facts_5593016_pcv-valves_.html
Function The PCV valve sends partially burned gases from the engine's crankcase (where the power generated from the engine is converted into the energy that drives your car) back into the combustion chamber (where fuel and air are mixed and exploded under pressure), where the gases are re-burned. Engine Benefits A PCV valve can help extend the life of your car's engine by preventing the buildup of sludge in the oil and by keeping moisture out of the engine, preventing corrosion from appearing in the engine
