If you have the stock spring clamps, a pair of channel lock pliers works great for this purpose since the jaws are roughly perpendicular to each other (helps prevent clamps from slipping in plier jaws) and the jaw width can be adjusted for each particular clamp size. Remove the long, thin engine cover piece on the passenger's side of the engine by removing the two (2) T30 Torx screws indicated by the yellow arrows in the picture below

OP: you did alot of stuff but some was not necessary for just PCV replacement, i also would advise against cleaning the alternator out like that, might just really screw the alternator up. One person said they were able to remove the bolt without removing the accessories bracket, but they said that after I had asked for weeks, and after I had completed my job

If the modified breather is fed back into the carburettor, has anyone any idea of just how much oil might get pulled into the cylinders to potentially oil up the plugs? P.E. He wrote as if it was a well known and documented modification, and when I posted that I had never seen or heard of it in 16 years of Norton ownership and would someone fill me in, there was no reply

The cause is typically a vacuum leak in the intake manifold, throttle body or vacuum plumbing, a defective Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) valve that is leaking exhaust into the intake manifold, or even bad gasoline. Common leak paths include the throttle body gaskets, intake manifold gasket, any of the engine vacuum fittings, hoses or vacuum-operated accessories (such as the power brake booster or EVAP canister purge valve)

Power went down, fuel efficiency went with it and operating temperature went so high that more NOx was formed than what came out of older high compression engines. I often think that the things the automakers did to meet emissions in the 1970s thru mid 80 was done in the hopes that POed customers would write their congressman to force the government to back off on emissions and fuel economy standards

I actually followed your procedure to service my '02 XC70 (turbo) PCV, but with this added caution: There is a short hard plastic vacuum hose that goes from the top of the breather box to the underside of the manifold, close to the power steering pump that can break easily. I found that a paint can opener has a flat nicely-hooked end that with a bit of relieving on the underside with the edge of a grinder wheel made it even better for raking out any sludge inside the ports

Make sure that nothing at all gets in the opening created by removing the PCV valve, as if debris or dirt got into the crankcase, it could cause a lot of damage. Anything else I need to know? For some vehicles, you may need to remove some ancillary parts to get to the Spark Plug Replacement, so be prepared for that

How Can I Stop an Engine Oil Leak at The Valve Cover Gasket ? A Recurring Problem - MyHonestMechanic

If one of my cars were taken to a repair shop, I would suspect I would receive a call from the service manager advising me my valve covers are leaking and should be replaced. The PCV valve should be replaced periodically, and the PCV system should be inspected to make sure no restriction is present.I replace the PCV valve when I perform a tune up on vehicles in my shop

Typical Turbo failures can be identified by noting puffs of smoke comeing from the exhaust when coming to a stop.NOTE: If the engine is only smoking during cold start and you have a sweet smell coming from the tailpipe check the headgasket to see if it is leaking down overnight. The level of pressure is determined by the fuel pressure regulator, which maintains a constant fuel pressure in relation to the pressure in the engine intake manifold

Oil consumption, and possible PCV valve addition???

Ha Ha Ha KOT quote by tx you know deep down inside the 3.2L engine was the best engine made for the CTS 3.2 may not have the most stock power but its not the least, and our only engine problem is our pcv system freezes causing the valve covers to leak..currently mine is but i have the gasket...its in the pile of parts for bout 7 months now lol....but they fixed that issue with a service bulletin...no oil consumption issues, no timing chain issues. The point at which the vent tube enters this 2nd airbox shows active and fresh oil stains as the oil must be consistently flowing through the ventilation system

Valve cover breather VS. PCV valve? Why is there a difference? - Ford Truck Enthusiasts Forums

  http://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1077585-valve-cover-breather-vs-pcv-valve-why-is-there-a-difference.html
The PCV valve is a check valve (take it out should rattle when it is shaken) that allows crankcase gases to be vacuumed out and mixed with the air-fuel mixture and burned during combustion. I'm wondering what happens when you replace the original valve covers with ones like I've got, and what you need to do with the holes in the air cleaner and carb

Personally I would get this sorted professionally, because it looks like a big, long and (in your case) oily job, and has the potential for some seriously expensive mistakes. Replacing the crankshaft seals looks like quite an involved job; it is graded as 4 out of 5 for difficulty in my Haynes manual, and involves removing the crankshaft pulley, which is graded 3 out of 5 for difficulty, and itself requires that the auxilliary drivebelt and air conditioning compressor are removed

PCV or Breathers on the valve covers? Crankcase Pressure?

I have no doubt that I am pulling the oil through the PCV system as eliminating the standard system and going to the air cleaner breather with no PCV valve has cured the oil in the intake for me. (The one on the Mystique is on the side of the gas tank, but not very hard to change.) The screen on the fuel pump is only a screen, and can't filter out the small partilcles that a real filter can. He said that according to the book, it was a "lifetime" filter, so I shouldn't have to worry about it.However, what I consider lifetime and what Chrysler considers lifetime are, I'm sure, two different things

I've seen multiple oil analyses on high horsepower cars of other forums I have been on over the years that have shown synthetics still being good even at 7,000 miles

Generally it is a good rule of thumb if you are in question to replace the PCV as it is such a cheap accessory part that it is not worth fooling around with trying to clean it or inspect it. Blow-by is burnt combustion gases occurring from the combustion cycle that happen to squeeze through the piston ring and cylinder wall interface, making their way into your oil reservoir system

Replacing the PCV valve

The clicking noise you hear when you shake a good PCV valve is due to the fact that the spring that is supposed to push the plunger head against the seat is actually slightly short. What happens when you remove the PCV valve entirely in a modern car? back to top There are many, many Web sites that report that a stuck-open PCV valve "can" result in rough idling and stalling

PCV valve. Do you have to run one? - Chevelle Tech

  http://www.chevelles.com/forums/showthread.php?t=255044
They are merely bleeding off crankcase pressure like ordinary breathers until you get up enough road speed to produce any delta P at all, and even then it can't be called much suction, more like fresh air being gently drawn in, at best. And for those who don't want to run a PCV system, in order to gain a little extra performance and to simplify things under the hood, there is absolutely nothing wrong with doing that either, other than causing a bit more pollution
