If you have the stock spring clamps, a pair of channel lock pliers works great for this purpose since the jaws are roughly perpendicular to each other (helps prevent clamps from slipping in plier jaws) and the jaw width can be adjusted for each particular clamp size. Remove the long, thin engine cover piece on the passenger's side of the engine by removing the two (2) T30 Torx screws indicated by the yellow arrows in the picture below
OP: you did alot of stuff but some was not necessary for just PCV replacement, i also would advise against cleaning the alternator out like that, might just really screw the alternator up. One person said they were able to remove the bolt without removing the accessories bracket, but they said that after I had asked for weeks, and after I had completed my job
If the modified breather is fed back into the carburettor, has anyone any idea of just how much oil might get pulled into the cylinders to potentially oil up the plugs? P.E. The cause is typically a vacuum leak in the intake manifold, throttle body or vacuum plumbing, a defective Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) valve that is leaking exhaust into the intake manifold, or even bad gasoline. Common leak paths include the throttle body gaskets, intake manifold gasket, any of the engine vacuum fittings, hoses or vacuum-operated accessories (such as the power brake booster or EVAP canister purge valve)

I actually followed your procedure to service my '02 XC70 (turbo) PCV, but with this added caution: There is a short hard plastic vacuum hose that goes from the top of the breather box to the underside of the manifold, close to the power steering pump that can break easily. I found that a paint can opener has a flat nicely-hooked end that with a bit of relieving on the underside with the edge of a grinder wheel made it even better for raking out any sludge inside the ports
Make sure that nothing at all gets in the opening created by removing the PCV valve, as if debris or dirt got into the crankcase, it could cause a lot of damage. Anything else I need to know? For some vehicles, you may need to remove some ancillary parts to get to the Spark Plug Replacement, so be prepared for that

Ha Ha Ha KOT quote by tx you know deep down inside the 3.2L engine was the best engine made for the CTS 3.2 may not have the most stock power but its not the least, and our only engine problem is our pcv system freezes causing the valve covers to leak..currently mine is but i have the gasket...its in the pile of parts for bout 7 months now lol....but they fixed that issue with a service bulletin...no oil consumption issues, no timing chain issues. The point at which the vent tube enters this 2nd airbox shows active and fresh oil stains as the oil must be consistently flowing through the ventilation system

Personally I would get this sorted professionally, because it looks like a big, long and (in your case) oily job, and has the potential for some seriously expensive mistakes. Replacing the crankshaft seals looks like quite an involved job; it is graded as 4 out of 5 for difficulty in my Haynes manual, and involves removing the crankshaft pulley, which is graded 3 out of 5 for difficulty, and itself requires that the auxilliary drivebelt and air conditioning compressor are removed
