Reply Anonymous 1 February, 2010 Susan, If you are running windows 7 there is a program called Windows DVD Maker that you can access from the start menu and this will take a movie file like AVI or WMV and burn it onto a DVD that will play on any standard DVD player. I have a Samsung that will, but when I wish to be certain it will play on any DVD player I convert the files to DVD format, using a program called DVD Flick

If you are not sure what kind of video you have or if you want to know the properties of your video source then read How to identify a video source, what video and audio codecs it requires and its properties. If you want menus and still images in VCDs or SVCDs you should turn on PBC, refer your DVD Players manual for more information how to do that(usually enabled by start the VCD,SVCD by pressing the Play-button on your remote)

Important note: Please be aware of fact that this software contains bundled software that can display advertisement on your PC and can collect and send URLs you visited to the vendor's server. Anyway I still had no joy loading the file from the program, but I did find that the default program for my mp4 files had changed and this lead me to just try double clicking the video file and lo and behold it worked although it seemed to look like a different player, doesn't bother me all I wanted were results and I got that, Cheere Frank T

Set the output file, hit "Start muxing" at the bottom, and away you go! If the container is unsuitable for your needs, you can reencode it, or try to convert it to some other format... Download and install it, then you need to fire up mkvmerge GUI (unless you like command-line tools, which is fine by me - although you might want to look at the file linking section of the mkvmerge documentation)
