However, you fear that running the code may break something and before you run the code, you want to backup the site so that in case running the code breaks something you can restore the backup taken before running the code. Trying to restore an entire full-farm backup into a different environment will flat-out fail due to the fact that SharePoint configuration databases maintain environmentally specific information such as server names. Before reading your post I was planing on doing a full farm backup from the central admin and then restoring that onto my new servers that are setup, identical layout of the servers, just new names and such
